During Tuesday afternoon’s meeting, the Brownwood Municipal Development District Board of Directors unanimously approved the purchase of four additional street signs to be placed at downtown intersections.
The intersections of Adams and Carnegie, Adams and Center, Adams and Fisk, and Carnegie and Baker will receive the signage, which will cost the BMDD a total of $16,228.
The signs will be similar to the ones at the intersections of Baker and Center and Baker and Fisk, which at the time cost $6,500. The signs have increased in price from two years ago due to new materials that are expected to make the incoming signs last longer, BMDD Executive Director Ray Tipton told the board.
TxDOT has also placed signs of the same fashion at the intersection of Main and Austin as part of its renovation project.
Also Tuesday, following an executive session the board approved a Building Improvement Incentive Grant not to exceed $22,500 to Brownwood Commercial, LLC for a property at 305 West Commerce – the site of the incoming Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers. No other information about the property was provided.
- Tipton updated the board on the progress of the following projects:
- The renovation and transformation of courts at Coggin Park to be used for pickle ball should be completed in about a week.
- Trafalgar Homes, located at the intersection of Milam and Indian Creek, will have some properties available for move in by the end of June if the utilities are installed and streets in the area are completed.
- The owner of former Kroger building has secured two letters of intents from two different tenants and still has additional space available. No information was provided on who the tenants are.
- The asbestos abatement at the former OYO Hotel continues, and as soon as it is completed demolition will begin.
Tipton also stated the City of Brownwood has already generated $333,000 more in sales revenue than what was budgeted for the fiscal year, and that does not include TJ Maxx whose financial impact will not be felt until July.
