EARLY – The Early Longhorns registered a second straight District 8-3A victory and remained in second place with in the league standings with a 6-2 home triumph over Millsap Friday night.
The Longhorns (13-6, 8-2) raced out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, added a single run in the fifth in their final three in the sixth before Millsap scored twice in the top of the seventh.
Early’s five-hit attack featured a triple and three RBIs from Ethan Pallette, two singles and a pair of RBIs from Caleb McCullough and base hits by John-Stewart Gordon and Gavin Sanders. The Longhorns also drew four walks and Millsap committed four miscues.
On the mound, Caydon Laird notched the win by tossing 6.2 innings of two-hit ball with 12 strikeouts, three walks and two unearned runs allowed. Sanders recorded the final out, and the Early defense committed three errors behind the pitching tandem.
The Longhorns will visit Breckenridge at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
