The Brownwood ISD (BISD) Board of Trustees met for a regular session meeting on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. The session was called to order by Board Vice President, Roderick B. Jones, Sr. Brown County Precinct #2 Justice of the Peace Harold Hogan gave the invocation. Coggin Elementary sixth-grade students Natalie Zaragoza and Rylan Martin led the Pledge of Allegiance.

INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS
BISD Deputy Superintendent Liesa Land provided an update regarding the additional day school year (ADSY) program that will be kicking off this summer. Camp Adventure: Roar on the Shore will offer summer enrichment and activities for current BISD Pre-K through fifth-grade students. At the last board meeting it was reported that around 225 students had signed up and the deadline of March 22 was quickly approaching. Several students enrolled in the final days leading up to the deadline and a total of 647 students have now registered. Land added that the district will soon be releasing information regarding summer learning options for students in grades 6-12.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
BISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young provided the following information and updates:
• BISD administrators participated in an emergency response tabletop exercise on Thursday, April 6, 2023. The meeting covered a detailed look at response procedures and included school resources officers, members of the Brownwood Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, Brownwood Fire Department, and other first responders.
• BISD has received a $229,000 safety and security grant from The Texas Education Association. The funds will go towards window and door film to secure campuses, door hardware, fencing, and additional Knox Boxes which hold interior and exterior keys to the buildings for use by emergency responders.
• May 29, 2023 (Memorial Day) will be a bad weather make up day.

CONSENT AGENDA

March 20, 2023 Board Meeting Minutes BISD Trustee Evans moved that the Consent Agenda be approved as presented, with BISD Trustee Smith seconding the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
The board moved into executive session at 6:58 p.m. to discuss personnel matters. They returned to open session at 7:44 p.m.
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF TEACHER TERM AND PROBATIONARY CONTRACTS FOR 2023-2024
Trustee Evans made a motion to approve the Term and Probationary Contracts for teachers to be employed during the 2023-2024 school year, as presented. Trustee Doremus seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
