STEPHENVILLE – The playoff-bound Brownwood Lady Lions softball team halted a two-game District 6-4A skid and returned to the win column with a 4-2 road victory over the Stephenville Honeybees Tuesday night.
Tied at 1 heading in the top of the fourth inning, Mia Lopez put the Lady Lions (10-11-1, 4-3) in front for good with a three-run home run. With one out in the inning, Stephenville (14-11, 2-3) yielded back-to-back singles to Jakayla Peek and Peyton Pena, then Lopez launched a blast to left field.
Stephenville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but Brownwood answered with the tying run in the top of the third. Kyleigh Caperton extended the inning with a two-out double, then scored on an RBI single by Cecilia Rodriguez.
The Honeybees’ second run crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Lady Lions collected 13 hits – two each by Caperton, Rodriguez, Pena and Mackenzie Welch, and one apiece by Lopez, Peak, Jeniffer Romero, Chloe Walls and Tynlea Wilson.
In the circle, Wilson tossed all seven innings and stranded 11 base runners while allowing two runs, one earned, on on six hits with five strikeouts and seven walks. The Lady Lions defense committed four errors behind Wilson.
The second-place Lady Lions wrap up their district slate at 6:30 p.m. Friday when they host Stephenville.
