Leonard Dale Courtright, 81, of Early, Texas passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023. A visitation with family will be held at Heartland Funeral Home, Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral service begins at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 14, 2023 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Joe Baucum officiating.

Dale was born March 10, 1942 in Brownwood, Texas to Harlie and Bessie Courtright. He graduated from Early High School in 1960 and attended Howard Payne University where he received a Bachelors in Administration in 1965. Dale married Rita Stewart November 27, 1959 and they began a family that blessed them with 3 children. Dale worked as the Business manager for Texas Youth Commission for 32 years before retirement. He opened up Farmer’s Agency office in Early where he sold insurance for 13 years. Dale and his family were members of the Early First Baptist Church throughout his life. He was an active member of Early Kiwanis as well as past President of the Kiwanis club. Dale loved to visit with people, he was constantly telling stories to old friends and making new ones by striking up a conversation. Dale loved spending time with family and friends camping and fishing, but his grandkids and their sporting events were a “never going to miss” occasion. He was married to his beloved Rita for over 63 years, his favorite and most treasured accomplishment.

Dale is survived by his wife Rita Jane Courtright of Early; daughters, Chris Stone and husband Allen of DeLeon, Texas, Karena Prew and husband Cory of San Saba; son, Jason Courtright of Killeen; sister, Nancy Jo Sudderth and husband Valton of Brownwood; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Harlie and Bessie Courtright; and a dear friend that Dale considered a brother, Harold Pairish.
