Congressman August Pfluger held a “Town Hall” meeting today in Brownwood at the Depot Civic Center. Pfluger is a United States Representative from the 11th District of Texas. His presentation centered on three topics.
President Trump
“The indictment of former President Trump is very concerning. If this can happen to somebody that was successful in the business world, and is a former President of the United States, it can happen to anybody… It does not matter what you think about him or the job he did.” Pfluger said the former District Attorney in New York and federal prosecutors looked into the matter and chose not to prosecute. “And now you get a guy (New York D.A. Alvin Bragg) who runs on this platform, he tells us a year before his election, that he is going to go after Donald Trump. To make it worse, the former Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) just a few days ago said ‘He’s going to have to prove his innocence.’ In this country, you are innocent until proven guilty. I don’t care what you think about Donald Trump. I don’t care if you like him or not. If it can happen to him, every one of us is vulnerable. The weaponization of government has to stop.”
Weaponization of Government
“The Speaker of the House (Kevin McCarthy) for the very first time in history has set up a select committee to investigate the weaponization of government. That committee is already hard at work. And every committee in Congress is looking at every government agency: Are you doing what you are supposed to be doing to support the American public? Or are you politicized and coming after our citizens? And it pains me to say, a lot of the agencies I think at the top official levels have become very politicized.”
Commitee Assignments
“I remain on the Homeland Security Committee. It’s a very important committee. No District in the country — except for the ones south of me on the border — is being hit harder with human trafficking, with fentanyl, and with the effects of crime. The previous Chairman of Homeland Security (Bennie Thompson, Mississippi) did not hold a single hearing on border security. I want to hold Mayorkas (Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security) accountable.”
Pfluger also serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee. “Last week we passed H.R. 1, “Lowering the Energy Cost of Americans,” the most important piece of legislation of the 118th Congress. It’s energy security. It cuts permitting time. It provides a common-sense permitting approach. It unleashes our domestic production of energy. It allows us to build new refineries. It allows us to do the things we need to do without declaring an all-out war on the energy industry.”
“We have solutions, but it’s not going to happen overnight. We are going to stay committed to getting the job done. We’re not going to stop. We’re going to keep after it.”
Award Given
Congressman Pfluger opened the meeting by presenting a C0ngressional Certificate of Recognition to Mitsue Rodriguez. Ms. Rodriguez served on Pfluger’s first annual Youth Leadership Council. She is President of the student body at Howard Payne University and on the HPU volleyball team. Her family is from Mexico, she grew up in San Antonio, and is the first in her family to attend college.
