The District 6-4A front-running Brownwood Lions return to league action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host the Graham Steers, seeking a fourth consecutive victory within the district.
Brownwood (16-6-1, 5-1) currently owns a one-game lead over both Glen Rose (11-7-1, 3-1) and Stephenville (11-10-1, 4-2). Graham (9-10-1, 2-4) enters the contest in fourth place in 6-4A, followed by Mineral Wells (6-14, 0-6).
The Lions on Saturday came up short in non-district action, dropping a 3-2 decision at No. 7 Godley.
Brownwood fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Case Markham’s one-out, two-RBI double scored both Jack Field, who reached on a fielder’s choice, and Antonio Ybarra, who walked.
District 10-4A co-leader Godley (20-1-1, 4-0) pulled even at 2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, and scored the winning run in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lions finished with six hits, led by Markham who reached three. Field, Jordyn Nickerson and Campbell Gilmore accounted for the other hits.
On the mound, David Turner worked four innings and gave up two runs on three hits with one strikeout and five walks. Gavin Brandstetter tossed two innings and yielded a pair of hits with two walks and one strikeout. Cole Miller hurled two-thirds of an inning, yielding one run on a hit and a walk.
