At 10:20 a.m. Thursday, first responders were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 67/377 East in Early, across from Pate’s Hardware.
Upon arrival, an 18-wheeler was discovered to have left the roadway and crashed into a wooden power pole, snapping the pole in half. According to the Early Police Department, the 18-wheeler hydroplaned on the wet road, jackknifed and struck the power pole and trees. No injuries were reported.
The result of the wreck was a loss of electricity in the nearby area, including Early High School. Due to the loss of power, Early High School dismissed for the day however all other Early ISD campuses are still in session.
Power has since been restored and the right lane of eastbound 67/337 is expected to be open before 1 p.m.
A Welch Brothers wrecker was on scene for approximately an hour and a half pulling the truck onto the roadway and towing and clearing the scene for Oncor to begin work. Oncor is expected to be on scene for several hours.
