GLEN ROSE – The Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to complete a District 6-4A sweep of reigning league champion Glen Rose as the Lady Tigers bounced back from Tuesday’s loss with a 9-7 victory Friday.
Brownwood (7-9, 1-1) surrendered four runs in the bottom of the first inning and was unable to climb out of the hole, and the Lady Lions also committed four errors after recording just one miscue in an 8-3 home win earlier this week.
Glen Rose (11-14, 1-1) produced 17 hits off Tynlea Wilson, who also walked five and struck out two batters. The Lady Tigers tacked on two additional runs in the second and fifth frames, and one more in the sixth.
The Lady Lions generated 16 hits and attempted to rally, closing the gap to 4-2 in the top of the second, 6-3 in the third, 6-4 in the fifth and 8-7 in sixth inning.
Chloe Walls led the way with three hits and two RBIs while Mackenzie Welch and Peyton Pena each tallied three singles and drove in one. Jeniffer Romero and Wilson chalked up two hits apiece, Mia Lopez and Cecilia Rodriguez logged one single and one RBI each, and Kyleigh Caperton contributed a double – the lone extra-base hit.
The Lady Lions will visit Mineral Wells at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first back-to-back league contests against the Lady Rams.
