Lions soccer boots Kennedale, 5-4, to earn second straight bi-district championship
WACO – The Brownwood Lions soccer program earned its second bi-district championship in as many seasons under head coach Michael Westerman, outlasting Kennedale for a 5-4 victory Thursday at Waco ISD Stadium.
The District 5-4A third seed Lions (13-11-1) were sparked by a pair of goals from Noah Barron – giving him 32 on the season – along with one each from Jakson Yoder, Raven Prado and Cristyn Villarreal against the defense of District 6-4A second seed Kennedale (12-5-4).
“Lots of big moments during that game and we were able to power through adversity and play hard the full 80 minutes.” Westerman said. “Everybody stepped up and played with high intensity.”
The Lions will next face District 7 champion Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis (24-1-1), which defeated District 8 fourth seed Lake Worth (3-17-2) Thursday night, in second-round playoff action at a time, date and place yet to be determined.
