ABILENE – The Brownwood Lions finished second as a team at Abilene’s Diamondback Golf Course Thursday, while the Lions No. 2 team came in fifth and defeated every District 6-4A foe in a tune-up for the March 27-28 league tournament at the same location.
The only team to finish ahead of the Lions Thursday was Brock, as Brownwood carded a 313 team score. Sir Bubba Jones and Hudson Reagan led the way with rounds of 73, and Jones topped Reagan in a scorecard playoff to finish as the third-best individual. Also competing for the Lions were Caleb Modawell with an 81, Peyton Sharp with an 84 and Slayde Espinoza with an 86.
Brock finished with a 297 team score led by Trace Roger’s low round of the day at 66. Finishing second as an individual was Wall’s Hayden Barnes with a 73.
The Lions No. 2 team turned in a 332 team score as they also trailed Abilene Wylie (316) and Llano (318). Leading the charge were Cobe Walker with a 77, Grant Gray with a 78, Will Stewardson with an 88, Luke Gray with an 89, and Andrew Boren with a 111.
Competing from 6-4A on the boys side were Stephenville (334), Glen Rose (372), and Graham (384).
Only three Lady Lions made the trip to Abilene Thursday as Tristyn Garcia carded an 87 followed by River Jones with a 93 and London England with a 96.
Both the Lions and Lady Lions will compete at the District 6-4A golf tournament at Abilene’s Diamondback Golf Course March 27-28.
