During Tuesday afternoon’s meeting of the Brownwood Municipal Development District, Executive Director Ray Tipton informed the Board of Directors of a number of updates, including one on the site of the former OYO Hotel.
Tipton said the new owners of the property have started the process of asbestos abatement and as soon as that is completed, demolition of the hotel will begin. Tipton added the owners of the hotel hope to have the building completely demolished within a week of the start date, though board members felt that may be on the aggressive side.
In other tidbits, Tipton stated work on Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers – located at the former site of Shipley Donuts – has resumed but there is no timetable for completion or an estimated opening date.
Work on the Trafalgar Homes project is continuing and a road within the property is expected to take shape soon.
The resurfacing of the courts at Coggin Park is expected to begin later this week. There will be three tennis courts and two pickleball courts going forward. Fence repairs and repainting, as well as the repainting of light poles, was recently completed.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the BMDD Board approved a Building Improvement Incentive Grant not to exceed $22,500 to Sandy and Robert Snyder for a business located at 1064 West Commerce.
