GATESVILLE – Trailing by as many as five runs, the Brownwood Lady Lions shaved two off the deficit in their final at-bat, but could not complete the comeback in a 6-3 loss at Gatesville Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then allowed two runs each in the third, fourth, and fifth frames before scoring twice in the top of the seventh.
Brownwood finished with eight hits – three by Chloe Walls, who drove in a run; two from Jeniffer Romero; and one apiece from Mia Lopez, Peyton Pena and Mackenzie Welch. Lopez and Pena drove in runs as well.
In the circle, Tynlea Wilson tossed all six innings and yielded five earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and three walks. The Brownwood defense committed two errors behind her.
The next action for the Lady Lions (6-8) takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 when they host Glen Rose in the District 6-4A opener.
