Lady Lions split first two games at Graham softball tournament

Cecilia Rodriguez (13) finished with three hits and three RBIs in the 7-5 win over Kennedale for Brownwood (6-5)

GRAHAM – Playing in their first games since Feb. 28, the Brownwood Lady Lions defeated Kennedale, 7-5, and lost to Holliday, 5-0, at the Graham tournament Friday.

In the victory over Kennedale, the Lady Lions led 3-1 after one inning, 6-2 after two frames, 6-4 through three, and 7-4 after four innings.

The Lady Lions collected 12 hits led the three from Cecilia Rodriguez – including two doubles – with three RBIs. Mia Lopez and Kyleigh Caperton finished with two hits and an RBI apiece, Jeniffer Romero with a pair of hits, Chloe Walls with a hit and an RBI, and Tynlea Wilson and JaKayla Peek with one hit each.

In the circle, Wilson surrendered five runs – two earned – on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk. The Brownwood defense committed four errors.

In Friday’s first game against Holliday, the Lady Lions allowed five runs in the bottom of the first inning, two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth inning.

Brownwood managed just two hits – by Walls and Rodriguez – and struck out 10 times.

In the circle, Wilson yielded eight runs – all unearned – on nine hits with three strikeouts and one walk. The Brownwood defense committed five errors.

The Lady Lions (6-5) return to action Saturday against Henrietta at 10:45 a.m. and Snyder at 4 p.m.
