TUSCOLA – The Early Longhorns chalked up a 12-4 victory over the Bangs Dragons in Jim Ned baseball tournament action Friday afternoon.
Bangs led 3-1 after one inning, but Early grabbed a 5-3 advantage in the second inning. The Longhorns stretched the lead to 7-3 in the fourth inning, 8-3 in the fifth, and 12-3 going to the bottom of the sixth, where the Dragons scored for the final time.
The Longhorns finished with eight hits, drew seven walks and Bangs committed nine errors.
The Dragons tallied five hits while Early committed five miscues.
Standouts at the plate for Early were Jeremy Brown with three hits and three RBIs, John-Stewart Gordon with two hits and an RBI, Caleb McCullough with a hit and an RBI, and Cooper Jacobs and Cedrick Morelan with one hit each.
On the mound for the Longhorns, Ethan Pallette gave up four runs – all unearned – on five hits with five strikeouts.
For Bangs offensively, Hunter Newton recorded two hits while Guy Powell, Kenny Cole, and Weston Jundt each contributed one.
Pitching for the Dragons were Brayden Fields – who surrendered five runs, two unearned, on three hits with three strikeouts in three innings – and Jundt – who yielded seven runs, two earned, on five hits in three innings.
