Janet Barker, age 79, of Coleman, passed away from this life on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home with her family by her side.

The family will host a time of visitation and fellowship from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 200 East College Avenue, in Coleman with Dr. Chas Shira and Tip Matthews officiating.

A private family interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

She was born Janet Elaine Scarbrough on July 23, 1943, in Santa Anna, Texas to Walter D. “Doc” Scarbrough and Hettie Williamson Scarbrough. Janet grew up in Santa Anna where she attended school. Janet was a bank teller at First National Bank in Coleman for over twenty years.  Her kindness and friendly face were a staple when you walked in the bank doors.  Janet was a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman and attended the CORE Bible study group.  Janet was a strong and godly woman. Her faith was evident during the past year as she faced many difficult struggles.

Janet was also the matriarch of her family. Her family meant everything to her; and by family that meant everyone that she was related to.  Janet always kept in touch with her family and friends, always giving words of encouragement and advice when needed.  Janet also volunteered for the Coleman Meals on Wheels when needed.  She was proud of her family and proud to call Coleman County her home.

Preceding Janet in death are her parents.

She is survived by her three children, Darla Wise and husband Hank of Gouldbusk, Mike Barker and wife Tanya of Coleman, and Jim Bob Barker and wife Felicia of Colleyville; nine grandchildren, Blaine Barker and wife Cicili, Hunter Wise and wife Allie, Ansley Barker and partner Curtis Nowlin, Hayden Wise and wife Delesa, Chanie Schaffner and husband Cade, Courtlyn Barker, Danielle Barker, Simone Barker, and Braxton Barker; thirteen great-grandchildren; and multiple cousins  including Sharon Niell and Kay Wilson whom she thought of as sisters.

Pallbearers will be Blaine Barker, Hunter Wise, Curtis Nowlin, Hayden Wise, Cade Schaffner, and Braxton Barker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jarvis George, Tommy White, Rex Mayes, and Tony Wyatt.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Janet’s honor be made to the Coleman Senior Center Meals on Wheels, 916 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834 or to Coleman Home Health and Hospice, 115 West Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.

We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Barker family on Janet’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Barker family.
