Four members of the District 2-4A Division I champion, bi-district champion and area champion Brownwood Lions football squad received all-state recognition from the Texas Sports Writers Association.
Junior Quinten McCarty was selected as a second-team 4A defensive lineman after logging 128 tackles, 17 for loss, 2 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 punt block for a defense that allowed 17 points and 269 yards – 153 rushing and 116 passing – per game, with 21 takeaways on the season. McCarty was the District 2-4A Division I Defensive MVP and was also named to the THSCA Super Elite Team.
Receiving honorable mention on the Class 4A roster were running back Konlyn Anderson, offensive lineman Isaac Gray and linebacker Chance Jones – all seniors.
Jones recorded recorded 123 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 for loss, 1 interception, and 1 punt block en route to District 2-4A Division I MVP honors.
Gray, at left tackle, helped anchor an offensive front that paved the way for 40 points and 386 yards – 229 on the ground and 157 through the air – per outing, including two games of at least 60 points. Gray was also named Lineman of the Year in District 2-4A Division I.
Anderson, a first-team all-district choice, led the Lions with 1,539 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on 257 carries.
