District Attorney Micheal Murray reported that on Monday, February 6, 2023, Cecil Duane Collier was convicted of Indecency with a Child in the 35th Judicial District Court and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Collier, 71, committed the offense by touching a child relative when she was ten years old. After the victim’s family reported the offense to law enforcement, Detective Jared Spohn gathered evidence and submitted the case to the District Attorney’s Office. Collier pled guilty and was sentenced according to a plea agreement approved by Judge Mike Smith.
Assistant District Attorney Alex Hunn presented the evidence and agreement to the court. The victim and her family were present for the plea and approved of the sentence.
Collier will be required to serve at least half of the ten-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole, and will also be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
