Deanna Allene (Manning) Byer, age 84, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral Services for Deanna will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023, at High Mesa Cowboy Church with Todd King officiating; burial with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023, at Costal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Deanna was born on February 1, 1938, to Genevieve “Jinkie” Joiner and Curtis L. Manning in Brownwood. She was the second born of 5 children. She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1957. After high school she attended Northwest Nazarene University. She ended up enlisting in the Army in 1964 to proudly serve 2 terms stateside at Walter Reed Hospital Washington D.C. and Fort Rucker Alabama as a Medical Specialist.
Deanna married Edward “Eddie” M. Byer Sr. on February 21, 1971. She was a lifelong resident of Brownwood. She raised 7 children, several foster children, and numerous grandchildren. She worked for K-Mart before becoming a full-time homemaker. She attended High Mesa Cowboy Church.
She enjoyed spending time with family. She loved going for drives in the countryside looking at the flowers and wildlife, taking care of her animals and picking pecans. Deanna also loved to do volunteer work for the VA, as she drove vans to Temple for the VA appointments. She will be remembered for her contagious smile and spunk.
Deanna is survived by 1 son, Timothy Byer and wife Tamara of Brownwood; 5 daughters, Ruth Allison Byer of Brownwood, Rachel Matthews and husband Terry of Brownwood, Stephanie Hurd and husband Phillip of Indiana, Beth Losure and husband Keith of Indiana, Tina Losure and husband Tim of Indiana; grandchildren, Bryttanie Beck and boyfriend Jeff Baker, Taylor Griffin and husband Justin, Justin Matthews and wife Amber, Amanda Martinez and husband Ricky, Kimberly Matthews, D.L. Hurd and wife Ashley, Ashton Byer, Mckenzie Spearman, Jon-Austin Lancaster and wife Chanel, Michael Byer, Alicia Morris, Miranda Byer, Britney Losure, Curtis Losure, Mitch Losure, Amanda Horn, Rebecca Tragesser, Desa Hurd, C.J. Hurd; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Eddie” Byer Sr.; one daughter, Lisa McLeroy; one son, Edward M. Byer Jr.; parents, Genevieve “Jinkie” and Wilburn Joiner; brothers, Curtis Wayne Manning, Donald Manning, James Manning, and Gary Manning.
