Fermin Cortez went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2023, at the age of 65. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.
Fermin was born July 8, 1957, in Bay City, Texas, to Juan Cortez Sr. and Eliza Martinez Cortez. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1975 and then attended Wharton Junior College and Brazosport College. Fermin started as a contractor at Dow Chemical in 1977 and advanced to become an IT Architect Specialist, holding several patents at Dow, before retiring in 2014.
Fermin married the love of his life, Charlene, on July 7, 1990, in Brazoria, Texas. Fermin brought his daughter, Michelle, to the marriage and then they were also blessed with their son, Alex. He adored His Savior and Lord and was a faithful member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Fermin enjoyed doing bible studies, woodworking, and helping people solve their problems. He was a brilliant man and a fantastic leader. He strived to use his gifts to God’s glory.
Fermin is survived by his wife of 32 years, Charlene Noble Cortez; daughter, Michelle Featherston and husband Ashley; son, Alex Cortex and wife Kiri; grandchildren, Grant Featherston, Iszak, Ayven, Corbin, Everett and Everleigh Cortez; mother, Eliza Cortez; siblings, Martin Cortez and wife Marla, Melinda Cortez, Felicia Luna and husband Jesse; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Cortez Sr. and brother, Juan Cortez Jr.
