Second-half shooting woes by the Howard Payne University women’s basketball team lead to a 62-58 Lady Jacket loss to LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne was led by Catlyn Ward with 13 points and four steals. Reina Flores added 11 points on 3 of 5 three-point shooting. Bria Neal finished with 10 points and seven rebounds With 64.2% shooting in the first period, HPU started the game strong with a 23-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Leading 37-28 at the half, HPU fell behind by five in the fourth sparked by over 50% shooting from the field by LeTourneau. Down five with under two minutes remaining, the Lady Jackets’ 20% shooting in the fourth quarter caught up with them and LeTourneau secured the 62-58 final. LETU was led by Ajanae Thomas with 15 points and Haylee Jordan with 11 rebounds. Howard Payne is now 2-12 overall and 0-8 in American Southwest Conference action. LeTourneau stands at 5-9 on the year and 1-6 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Saturday, Jan. 14th at home versus Sul Ross State University. It will be a 1:00 pm start time.
