WACO – Fresh off a 13-6-2, bi-district championship campaign, the Brownwood Lady Lions opened the 2023 soccer season with a 5-1 road victory over Waco La Vega Tuesday night.
Molly Oliver scored three goals for Brownwood, while Adryanna Huerta and Kennedi Johnson added one each, with Johnson’s coming on a penalty kick. Ataleigh Constancio and Braycee Lee each dished out an assist.
“I emphasized to the girls that it’s important to start out quickly to set the pace for the game, and Molly Oliver had a goal within the first five minutes,” said Lady Lions third-year head coach Alexis Mosqueda. “We saw some great takeaways tonight and we got away injury free, which was one of our main goals going into our long weekend of travel. I’m very excited for the future of this team.”
The Lady Lions (1-0) will compete in the Alvarado tournament this weekend against Saginaw at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Waco University at 3 p.m. Friday, and Wimberley at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
