James W. Erwin, 81, of Brownwood, formerly of Topeka, Kansas passed away December 21, 2022.
A military funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Greenleaf Cemetery with the Reverend Bill Slaymaker officiating, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.
Jim was born January 31, 1941 to Homan and Moreene Erwin. A 1959 graduate of Brownwood High School, he went on to attend Tarleton State College before entering the Army. Shortly after his military service he went to work for Santa Fe Railroad retiring in 2005 after 36 years of service.
Jim was a lifelong Boy Scout earning the Silver Beaver Award in 1983 and the Silver Antelope Award in 2006. He was a National Scout Committee member, a Jayhawk Scout Council (Topeka, Kansas) Committee member and a Leave No Trace Master Educator.
Jim was also a Philmont Ambassador for the Boy Scouts Philmont Training Center in Cimarron, New Mexico.
Jim is survived by his sister, Doris Low of Brownwood; nephew, Jeff Low and wife Hillary of Midlothian and great niece, Madison Low of St. Louis, Missouri.
Jim was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Tom Erwin and brother-in-law, Frazier Low.
