Both teams met in the middle of the field for the coin toss by Head Referee Bryan Senkirik. The Cowboys won the toss and chose to kick. The opening kickoff was made by Barrett Tindol, with Ezequiel Ramirez returning the ball for the Coyotes. On the second play of the game, Kade Christiansen broke away with a 45-yard run for the Coyotes’ first touchdown. Karson Stevens ran a successful 2-point conversion giving the Coyotes an early 8 – 0 lead. Rush Tharp returned the following Coyotes kickoff for a short gain. The Cowboys moved the ball down the field with a couple of big gains from Cathan Kinsey connecting to Rush Tharp and a Barrett Tindol rush, but ultimately came up short and had to turn the ball over on downs. The Coyotes took over and followed with a 30-yard run from Easton Followwell. Michael Smith then made a completion to Aaron Hernandez, and then Adrian Contreras made a long 48-yard run for another Coyote Touchdown. Easton Followwell came in as Coyotes quarterback and completed a pass to Michael Smith to tally another 2-point conversion. (Coyotes 16 – Cowboys 0.)
After Kaden Peek’s 10-yard return on the kickoff, Cathan Kinsey and Barrett Tindol completed a couple of catches from Rush Tharp, gaining a total of 37 yards. Barrett Tindol finished off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run for the Cowboys. Rush Tharp topped it off with a successful 2-point conversion to Cathan Kinsey, making the score Coyotes 16 – Cowboys 8. The Cowboys then attempted an onside kick from Barrett Tindol, and Rush Tharp seized the opportunity and jumped on it for a Cowboys recovery. Tharp then threw to Frankie Ibarra for a 10-yard gain. Cathan Kinsey then moved into the quarterback position and connected with Rush Tharp for a great catch and 35 more yards. The Cowboys’ drive was then shut down by a big defensive interception by Ezequiel Ramirez. The Coyotes’ Kade Christiansen followed with a good 20-yard run. In a big heads-up play, Easton Followwell ran into a wall of Cowboys and pitched it to Kade Christiansen, picking up 35 yards. Ezra House followed with a big run, and Ezequiel Ramirez punched it in for another Coyote Touchdown. The Coyotes’ 2-point conversion was good, with a pass from Easton Followwell to Ezra House. The first half of play ended with the score Coyotes 24 – Cowboys 8.
The Coyotes attempted a pooch kick at the start of the second half but failed to recover possession as the Cowboys’ Barrett Tindol immediately fell on the ball. The Coyotes played great defense and eventually secured a turnover on downs. On their first play, the Coyotes ran a reverse, and Kade Christiansen took it all the way for a Coyote Touchdown. This time the Cowboys’ defense held, preventing the 2-point conversion. With the score Coyotes 30 – Cowboys 8, the pressure was high for a Cowboys comeback. On the Cowboys’ next possession, Cathan Kinsey found Barrett Tindol for a 10-yard reception. Kinsey then connected to Zaylon Sotelo for a big first down for the Cowboys. Kinsey followed by hitting Tharp on a 35-yard pass for a much-needed Cowboy touchdown. The 2-point conversion was no good, leaving the score Coyotes 30 – Cowboys 14. The Cowboys attempted to keep their comeback alive with an onside kick that was successfully recovered by Barrett Tindol. The Cowboys marched down the field with two big plays from Rush Tharp and Kaden Peek but were denied getting into the endzone due to a huge pick-six by Michael Smith for a whopping 102 yards. The Coyote 2-point conversion was good to Raiden Carlisle for a 38-14 Coyote lead. After the kickoff, the Cowboys quickly moved down the field and scored as Cathan Kinsey hit Barrett Tindol with a great pass. Kinsey also found Zaylon Sotelo on the 2-point conversion, which brought the score to Coyotes 38 – Cowboys 22. The Coyotes returned the kickoff, and after a 20-yard run from Kade Christiansen, the Coyotes fumbled the snap, and the Cowboys recovered. The Cowboys tried to gain some momentum but fell short after an Easton Followwell interception. The Coyotes took no chances this time and ran the clock out to become the 2022 6th Grade Flag Football Super Bowl Champions with a final score of 38-22.
