HOOPS ROUNDUP: Brookesmith teams sweep Paint Rock; Bangs boys fall at Goldthwaite

PAINT ROCK – The Texas Girls Coaches Association Class A No. 8 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs improved to 11-2 on the season with a 47-16 road victory over Paint Rock Tuesday night.

The Lady Mustangs led 15-2 after one quarter, 22-6 at halftime, and 35-10 through three periods.

Bailey Mendieta and Nevaeh Neith led the way with 10 points apiece followed by Mya Richards, Emma Slayton, and Sharon Beth Bradley with six points each, Ava Hathcock with four, Kristen Langley and Harley Gilliam with two points apiece, and Elva Garay added a free throw.

Brookesmith will take place in the Zephyr tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Brookesmith Mustangs 49, Paint Rock Indians 37

PAINT ROCK – The Brookesmith Mustangs improved to 6-4 on the season with a 49-37 road victory over Paint Rock Tuesday night.

Up 13-12 after one quarter, the Mustangs stretched the lead to 24-12 at halftime and were in front 31-23 through three periods.

Trey Toft poured in a team-high 20 points trailed by Adyn Ribble with 11, Brennan Mendieta with seven, Caleb Bradley with five, and Brenden Been, Vegas Gilliam and Jerry Petross with two points apiece.

The Mustangs will compete in the Zephyr tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Goldthwaite Eagles 54, Bangs Dragons 38

GOLDTHWAITE – The Bangs Dragons scored the first five points of the game, but the Goldthwaite Eagles snatched the lead by the end of the quarter and continued to pull away for a 54-38 victory.

Bangs was down 10-9 after one quarter, 22-15 at halftime and 42-28 heading into the fourth period.

Tyson Woods paced the Dragons with 16 points trailed by Guy Funk with eight, Guy Powell with five, Zack Ferguson with four, Nate Stoffer with three, and Hunter Newton with two points.

Bangs will face Comanche at 3:30 p.m. Thursday to open play in the Hamilton tournament.
