The Texas A&M Forest Service is assisting with Toys for Kids this year, as on Friday morning they delivered canned goods to Good Samaritan Ministries that were donated at Grand Starz, and on Wednesday, Dec. 14 members of the Forest Service will assist all day in collecting toys at KOXE/KBWD and Wendlee Broadcasting.
“We’re trying to support the community and want to let them know what we’re doing and why we’re here,” said Sebastian Lopez of the Texas A&M Forest Service. “One of our main goals this year was to get our name out in the Brownwood community and let them know we are supporting the community as well as helping with anything like this. That’s one thing we’ve been pushing for this year. We’ve done some other stuff with the community and we’re looking forward to continuing to do anything we can.”
Stacee Hetzel with Toys for Kids reported as of Dec. 1 more than 750 kids in 300 families had registered. Registration continues from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Grand Starz through Monday, Dec. 12. Distribution Day is Saturday, Dec. 17.
Items still needed included boys and girls items for pre-teens.
“Anything ages 9 and up,” Hetzel said. “We’ve had requests for a soccer ball and goal, a radio, really we need any pre-teen items. That’s the group where the selves are pretty empty whenever we get set up.”
