LORENA – The Brownwood Lady Lions picked up a pair of victories Friday to even their Lorena tournament record at 2-2, knocking off Belton and Troy.
The Lady Lions snapped a four-game skid to start the second day of the Lorena basketball tournament Friday, throttling Belton by a 61-27 count.
The Lady Lions knocked down 40 percent (21 of 53) of their field goals, including 28 percent (7 of 25) of their three-pointers, to go along with 57 percent (12 of 21) free throw shooting. Meanwhile, the Lady Lions limited Belton to 21 percent (11 of 52) shooting from the floor with 29 turnovers. Belton also converted just 2 of 7 free throws as well.
Brownwood led 18-12 after one quarter, 34-14 at halftime, and 48-29 through three periods.
Kassidy Wooten poured in a career-high 20 points followed by Mady Pyle with 11, Hannah Deen with nine, Kimber Green and Miranda Northcutt with seven apiece, Talasia Green with five and Icess Hall with two points.
The Lady Lions then chalked up a 52-36 victory over Troy in Friday’s nightcap.
Brownwood sank 31 percent (18 of 59) of its shots, including 32 percent (10 of 31) of its treys, and drained 50 percent (6 of 12) of its free throw. The Lady Lions also recorded 33 rebounds and 15 steals and committed only 13 turnovers.
Down 17-15 after one quarter, Brownwood took a 30-19 halftime lead that stood at 35-28 heading into the fourth period.
Kimber Green led the way with a career-best 20 points trailed by 10 from Hall, eight from Wooten, six from Pyle, and four points each from Deen and Sidney Windham.
The Lady Lions (6-8) resume tournament action at noon Saturday against Robinson.
