The Brownwood Lyric Theatre’s Christmas musical opens this weekend. The show, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” will be performed for two weekends. The musical is directed by Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld who gave insight into the show’s synopsis.
“I’ll Be Home for Christmas is a heartwarming family story set in 1941. The family gathers around the radio for news and entertainment. Beginning with Thanksgiving Day, the family and their neighbors begin the holiday season together,” said Dr. Humfeld. “The radio is central to their lives as it brings the world to their doorstep. The play continues through December 8, 1941, after the family, learns of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Combining humor, history, and drama, the unity and heart of these individuals is inspirational.”
The showtimes are:
Friday, December 2nd at 7:30 pm
Saturday, December 3rd at 2:30 pm & 7:30 pm
Sunday, December 4th at 2:30 pm
Friday, December 9th at 2:30 pm & 7:30 pm
Saturday, December 10th at 7:30 pm
Sunday, December 11th at 2:30 pm
The audience will see how the performance utilizes different aspects of radio broadcasting. As the musical’s characters listen to the radio, the host, soloists, choir, and radio show voices will all be seen in different parts of the Lyric stage.
“The song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” is a number with special significance to all. We hope that this will be a wonderful way to celebrate the Christmas season with our audiences,” said Dr. Humfeld.
