Doyce Glenn Nelson, 84, of Zephyr, Texas passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022. A visitation with the family will be held at Heartland Funeral Home from 4:00 – 6:00 Sunday, November 27, 2022. Funeral service will be held in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 28, 2022 with interment to follow in the Zephyr Cemetery officiated by Gerald Burns.
Doyce was born July 21, 1938 in Comanche County to A.J. and Patricia Nelson. He graduated high school in Gustine, Texas and married his church sweetheart, Lillie Mc Dearmon July 26, 1958. Their union blessed them with 3 daughters and many grandchildren. Doyce worked for the US Postal Service, serving 20 plus years in Austin and about 15 years as Postmaster in Marble Falls before retiring with 35 years of service on March 11, 1987. In retirement, Doyce worked on ranches and enjoyed having daily interactions with the cattle, goats and donkeys. He volunteered with the fire department in Granite Shoals and Zephyr where he loved to serve his communities and meet with guys to share stories and play a little dominoes. Doyce liked to fish, play cards, dominoes, deer hunting and Bowling. Lillie and Doyce travelled around Texas with their league and enjoyed their time traveling together. They met in the Baptist Church and were members of the Baptist Church their entire lives. Doyce loved his family and was a good provider who taught them well although they admit he got softer with the grandchildren and melted with the great grandchildren.
Doyce is survived by his wife, Lillie Nelson; daughters, Terri Claycamp and husband Al of Wichita Falls, Rebecca Race of Abilene and Cynthia Nelson of Zephyr; grandchildren, Ruth Jinks and husband Jason, Ashli Claycamp, Justin Begnoche and wife Katie, Trevor Begnoche, Bryce Race, Kasandra Race, Cord Biddy and wife Nickie, Chandler Nelson; great-grandchildren, J.J. Jinks, J.D. Claycamp, Gideon Claycamp, Weston Begnoche, Cora Biddy, and Kyleigh Rainwater, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Doyce was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and A.J. Nelson; his brother, Sherman Nelson and his sister, Carolyn Nelson.
