Howard Payne University’s Presley Fisk recorded her first win as head coach of the Lady Jacket basketball program with an 89-67 victory over Barclay College Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jacket defense held the Bears to just 37.5% shooting from the field while outrebounded Barclay 54-31 in the game.
Holding a 35-20 halftime advantage, the Lady Jackets had their best offensive quarter of the year so far scoring 28 points in the third quarter.
Howard Payne was led by Bria Neal and Asia Mitchell with 20 points each. Neal grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, Mitchell was 4 for 8 from the three-point line with eight rebounds. Trynadee Greenwell finished with 12 points, five assists and four steals. Catlyn Ward added 13 points.
Barclay was led by Jalen Davis with 14 points, Melea Lovelace with 12 and Kate Semenuik with 11 points.
HPU was 11 of 26 from behind the arc for 42.3% and connected on 47.0% on their shots from the field.
Howard Payne is now 1-1 overall and Barclay stands at 2-7 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on Friday at home versus nationally ranked Trinity University at 7:30 p.m.
