Howard Payne University has 14 football players recognized on the 2022 All-Conference teams the American Southwest Conference announced today following a vote by the league’s head coaches.
Otis Lanier – First Team Offense – WR
With 66 catches for 955 yards (14.4) and 11 touchdowns, Lanier led the ASC in Receiving Yards (943), Receiving Yards Per Game (94.3), Receptions Per Game (6.6), and All-purpose Yards (135.5), all in the top 30 in the nation. He was also among the ASC leaders in Total Points Scored (72), Total Touchdowns (12), and Scoring (7.8 per game). Lanier also has 10 kickoff returns for 88 yards, and nine punt returns for 150 yards, and one TD. He was twice named ASC Player of the Week.
Kyle Bell – First Team Defense – DB
Finishing sixth in the ASC in Total Tackles with 84 (50 solo, 34 assisted), Bell had double-digit tackles in three games with a season-high 15 versus McMurry, being named ASC Player of the Week. He also recorded seven pass breakups.
Jordan Carroll – Second Team Offense – WR
With 36 passes for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns, Carroll was among the leaders in the ASC and the nation in receiving. He posted two 100+ yards games and had two TD receptions versus East Texas Baptist.
Steven Trevino – Second Team Offense – OL
Playing in nine games this season, Trevino was an anchor for the Yellow Jacket offensive line that produced two All-Conference running backs this season.
Landon McKinney – Second Team Offense – QB
Guiding the seventh-ranked offense in the nation, McKinney led the ASC in Total Passing Yards (2876), and Passing Yards Per Game (287.6), finishing in the top 15 nationally in both categories. He was in the top 30 in the nation in Total Offense (296.5), Points Responsible (178), Passing Completions Per Game (14.3), and Passing Efficiency (152.4). He guided an HPU offense that broke the school record for Total Yards in a game with 769 (375 rushing, 394 passing) versus Hendrix. McKinney was named ASC Player of the Week once this season.
Billy Reagins – Second Team Offense – RB
With 118 carries for 496 yards, Reagins scored six touchdowns with three coming against Hendrix. He also caught three passes out of the backfield for 20 yards.
Tauren Bradley – Second Team Offense – RB
With 542 yards on 123 carries, Bradley led the team in rushing yards scoring four Touchdowns. He also caught 15 catches out of the backfield for 154 yards. He recorded a season-high 115 yards versus George Fox.
James Jakubowski – Second Team Defense – DL
With a team-high eight tackles for loss, Jakubowski recorded 41 total tackles (18 solo, 23 assisted) along with a team-high 4.5 Sacks (6th in ASC). He also had one interception and two pass breakups.
Peyton Lowe – Second Team Defense – LB
Recording 50 total tackles (26 solo, 24 assisted), Lowe had five tackles for loss, 2.5 Sacks, one interception, and four pass breakups.
Jessie Paris – Third Team Defense – LB
Second on the team in total tackles with 65 (32 solo, 33 assisted), Paris added 6.0 tackles for loss, and one Sack.
Jarett Brown – Third Team Defense – DB
Third on the team in total tackles with 60 (38 solo, 22 assisted), Brown had a team-high three interceptions. With 4.5 tackles for loss on the year, he had a season-high 10 at Texas Lutheran.
Aaron Alderete – HM Defense – DL
With 29 tackles (10 solo, 19 assisted) on the year, it was Alderete’s 4.5 tackles for loss and the attention he got from offensive lines that made him valuable. Forcing one fumble on the year, he had a season-high five tackles versus Austin College.
Byron Clark – HM Defense – DB
With 19 tackles (13 solo, 6 assisted), it was his nine pass breakups (2nd in ASC) and one interception that was his most impressive asset.
Casey Dufner – Outstanding Sportsman Team of the Year – TE
In ten games played in for the Yellow Jackets, Dufner recorded five catches for 69 yards playing tight end. He is a multiple Academic All-Conference selection, was named to the 2021 ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete team, and was a Nat Tracy Servant Leadership Award winner in 2022.
