EARLY – Nov. 7, 2022 marked the 22nd anniversary of the last deathless day on Texas roadways. The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Brownwood District created an art display out of a wrecked car to highlight deadly habits that cause the majority of the fatal crashes which have killed over 79,000 people across the state since this date.
The heavily damaged red Honda SUV serves as a reminder for passersby to make responsible driving decisions. It is parked at the Early Police Department, located at 906 Early Blvd., and will remain through Friday, Nov. 18. A barricade with the #EndTheStreakTX message is displayed alongside the damaged vehicle, which is painted with the top contributing factors of many fatal crashes, such as speeding, texting, distracted driving, driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain a single lane.
TxDOT created #EndTheStreakTX in an effort to raise awareness about the long streak of traffic deaths in Texas and how this is an issue that impacts every Texan. The goal is big, but it’s possible, and it will take every single driver to do their part behind the wheel—by making responsible decisions to end this streak of deadly days on Texas highways. One of the easiest decisions, simply buckling your seat belt, increases your chances of surviving a crash by nearly 50%.
TxDOT Brownwood would like to thank Early Police Department for providing the location for the display and Welch Brothers Towing for providing the vehicle; their support of our efforts to #EndTheStreakTX is greatly appreciated.
