SWEETWATER – The Brownwood Lady Lions chalked up their first victory of the 2022-23 basketball campaign Tuesday night, rolling past the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs in a 57-31 triumph.
“They traveled well and came in and took care of business,” said Lady Lions 14th-year head coach Heather Hohertz. “Our energy was great and everyone contributed off the bench and on the court. I’m proud of the girls and the progress we’ve made from game one to game three but we’ve got to keep getting better every time we step on the court.”
The Lady Lions shot 37 percent (20 of 53) from the floor, but 47 percent (9 of 19) from the three-point arc. Brownwood sank 47 percent (8 of 17) of its free throws, recorded 22 steals, committed 18 turnovers, pulled down 27 rebounds and dished out 12 assists.
Brownwood led 10-6 after one quarter, 29-11 at halftime, and 46-23 through three periods.
Mady Pyle and Kimber Green led the way with 13 points apiece, Hannah Deen chipped in 10, Icess Hall contributed seven, Kassidy Wooten and Miranda Northcutt contributed four each, Olivia Ringer added three, Talasia Green scored two points and Sidney Windham sank a free throw.
