ROUND ROCK – Goldthwaite Eagle senior Conner Bartek captured the UIL Class 2A boys cross country state championship Friday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, completing the 5K run in a time of 16:13.8.
Bartek finished nearly a minute faster than the silver medalist, Louise senior Antonio Martinez, who was clocked at 17:02.7.
Fellow Goldthwaite Eagle Jose Vanegas-Martinez also qualified for state and came in 65th overall in a time of 19:03.8.
Meanwhile, the Goldthwaite girls finished eighth as a team at the state meet with 209 points.
The Lady Eagles were led by Rani House’s 11th-place effort of 13:22.0 followed by Addisyn Howard (37th, 14:03.5), Emily Bartek (50th, 14:18.1), Rylie Hillis (53rd, 14:22.6), Lainey Jernigan (58th, 14.29.9), Abigail Patrick (81st, 14:53.7) and Aubrey Hermesmeyer (86th, 15:07.3).
