HAMILTON – The Bangs Dragons rallied from an early 13-point deficit to claim a 34-27 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night, setting up a battle with the Coleman Bluecats next week for the No. 2 playoff seed from District 5-2A Division I.

Bangs (6-3, 4-1) rallied and pulled even at 13 at halftime after a sluggish start, then fell behind 27-20 early in the fourth period before tallying the game’s final two touchdowns to emerge victorious.

The Dragons finished with 346 total yards – 227 rushing and 119 passing – against Hamilton (4-5, 2-3), which will settle for the district’s fourth playoff seed.

Guy Powell again led the way for Bangs with 148 rushing yards and three touchdowns – including the game winner with less than a minute left – while catching three passes for 71 yards and two more scores.

Quarterback Kenny Cole connected on 6 of 12 passes for 119 yards with the two scoring tosses and one interception, while rushing for 51 yards.

Other offensive contributors were Keygan Pitts with a 30-yard catch and 22 yards on the ground, and Skylar Minshew with two catches for 18 yards and 6 yards rushing.

Defensively for Bangs, Pitts recorded a team-high 13 tackles trailed by Powell with a dozen, Nate Stoffer with eight, and Ethan Ethridge with seven.

Next week, the playoff-bound Dragons close out the regular season at home against Coleman (7-2, 4-1), which defeated De Leon, 50-0, Friday night.
