The following questions were sent by Brownwood News to all candidates in the race for BISD School Board, Place 7.
1. What is your connection to Brownwood ISD?
I grew up in Brownwood, starting off with kindergarten at Woodland Heights attending
Brownwood ISD all the way through until I graduated from Brownwood High School in 2011.
My wife attended Brownwood ISD as well, and is now a 6th grade Science teacher at
Coggin Elementary. We have 5 nieces that are sprinkled throughout the Brownwood school
district.
2. Why do you want to serve on the BISD School Board?
I want to serve on the School Board so I can support our teachers to support our students.
By supporting our teachers we are supporting our students, as successful students are a
direct result of highly skilled and dedicated teaching. I want to listen to teachers’ concerns
as well as parents so I can raise awareness of what they are seeing on the ground level. By
weaving teachers and parents perspectives I can create an approach that would allow the
Brownwood Community to make a meaningful and lasting impact on Brownwood ISD.
3. How would your addition to the school board be an improvement?
I believe that I can add a perspective that is currently missing from our Board of Trustees.
I encourage everyone to be involved with the process, as I believe that the more voices that
are heard the better. I will listen to all individuals regardless of race, religion, creed or
socioeconomic status. My goal is solely to improve our schools on a local level. When
important issues are brought before the board I will come to the meeting having done my
homework on the issue, but will be open minded and listen to both sides of the issue.
4. What do you hope to accomplish during your tenure should you be elected?
I want to make fair and just decisions regardless if they are easy to make or hard. I am not
afraid to stand up for what is right for the students of Brownwood ISD. At the end of the
day I want to make Brownwood ISD a place where all of Brownwood’s children can get an
honest education that prepares them for the world they are facing. The only way to
continue to improve our school is through honest questioning and open communication.
