The following questions were sent by Brownwood News to all candidates in the race for BISD School Board, Place 7.

1.What is your connection to Brownwood ISD?

I was born and raised in Brownwood, TX and graduated from BHS in 1999. My daughter, Kori graduated BHS in 2018. My son, Logan is currently a junior at BHS and a very active student athlete. My mother, step-mother, and grandmother were all teachers at BISD. I am vested and know that BISD is the heart of our community.

2.Why do you want to serve on the BISD School Board?

I have always had a strong desire to serve our community. Now I feel I should serve our community in a different capacity. With both my children and myself having attended each stage of BISD, and having family members that have taught at BISD, I know first hand the challenges our students and faculty face.

After surveying several current staff members it is apparent that safety is still one of the top concerns. My goal is to address these concerns by working hard to improve safety standards and security on all campuses with an emphasis on emergency preparedness.

I want to work with other board trustees overseeing responsible spending of taxpayer dollars and be a voice against tax abatements that would not benefit our school district or tax payers. I will also be a Christian voice and stand strong for Christian values within our schools.

3. How would your addition to the school board be an improvement?

As a farmer, rancher and having served our community as a firefighter for the last 17 years, I will bring different skills and mindset to the district.

Currently working as fire lieutenant at the Brownwood Fire Department, I am trained in emergency preparedness and have been in command during multiple emergency situations. I am proficient under pressure and have experience working alongside others during volatile situations to accomplish a common goal.

Building several businesses from the ground up, I have experience allocating resources to be successful even during difficult times. I have strong leadership qualities, and prudent budgeting experience that can benefit our schools. I know how to work with and manage a crew with a proven record of success.

4. What do you hope to accomplish during your tenure should you be elected?

If elected, I will help ease safety concerns of students and staff through security improvements, preparedness, and training.  I will build positive relationships throughout the district and community.

I would like to allocate more funds to BISD’s vocational programs.  From my own personal experience, I know vocational programs teach work ethic and values that prepare students for the workforce and future life challenges.

I want to be an integral part in building stronger positive  relationships between Brownwood Independent School District and the Brownwood community.
