The Brownwood Library is proud to announce that it is the recipient of a Texas Book Festival Collections Enhancement grant! With this grant, Brownwood Library will purchase additional children’s non-fiction titles.
Circulation of children’s non-fiction material has been one of the fastest growing sections of the Brownwood Library. Even though the library’s circulation took a dip post-pandemic, check-outs of kids’ non-fiction books have almost doubled from their previous comparable circulation before COVID.
“I love kids’ non-fiction books,” said library director Becky Isbell. “People may not think to look in the non-fiction section for great kids’ books, but there’s a wide variety of excellently written, beautifully illustrated books. Perennial favorites are the animal books, dinosaur books, Lego books, Minecraft books, the Who Was series, and Guinness World Records. But another excellent series is called Scientists in the Field, which is an excellently well-photographed series that follows all types of scientists, like dolphin scientists, space scientists, earthquake scientists, in their research.”
The 2022 Texas Book Festival will be November 5-6 in Austin.
