Courtney Parrott, Family and Community Health Agent for Brown County was honored recently at the National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) 87th annual session, whose theme was “Take Flight, Reach New Heights” She was a member of the two teams that received a first and third place National Award and two first places and a third place Southern Region NEAFCS Award at the conference held September 12-15, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In receiving the award, Parrott and other agents in District 7 were recognized for “Family & Community Health “Connections” in Brown County” which is a district-wide newsletter that the FCH Agents in District 7 of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension have published for the last 9 years. The NEAFCS Newsletter Communication Award recognizes outstanding written communication through three different issues of an educational newsletter for either a special educational effort or a regular Extension program.

Texas Coming Together for Racial Understanding (CTRU) work group is a collective of Extension professionals who are connected by their passion to help Texas Extension and our communities become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Collectively contributing over 33,000 work hours, providing direct training and support for over 1800 people, and creating a comprehensive survey analysis, the group has made a significant impact that exemplifies the true meaning of teamwork.
The NEAFCS Excellence in Teamwork Award was established in 2018 to recognize outstanding Extension Family and Consumer Sciences programs conducted by a multi-disciplinary team. The Extension programs demonstrate effective performance and significant results.
MARY W. WELLS MEMORIAL DIVERSITY AWARD

The CTRU work group also earned the Mary W. Wells Memorial Diversity Award. It is presented in support of the Cooperative Extension System’s emphasis on diversity and pluralism—a national program to respond to the changing workforce, population, and Extension audience. The award is named to honor the contributions to diversity for the association and profession by Mary Wells, NEAFCS Past President.
