EARLY – “We’ve never had anything like this in Early or Brownwood so it’s nice to have something new coming to town.”
Those were the words of Drew Sessler, who along with Hadley Spieckerman have opened HD Daquiris at 111 C. Early Blvd. The business, which began greeting customers on Thursday, Sept. 22, offers beer, wine, tobacco products and even ice cream and slushies. But the heart of the business resolves around daiquiris.
“I’m originally from Louisiana and these daiquiri shops are really popular there,” Speickerman said. “Me and my cousins and uncle went to one one night and I thought we needed to do something like this here somewhere. We looked around for a location for a while and we wanted something on the main strip where it would pop. Something like this, not a lot of people do it so they don’t know what it really is, so it needed to be in a good location and I feel like we got one.”
Spieckerman pitched his idea to Sessler, who came on board.
“I needed a drive-through window put in, and he builds houses, so he asked what’s it for,” Spieckerman said of Sessler. “So, I told him and asked him if he wanted to be part of it because I was really looking for a partner. We talked about it and the next day we started getting everything together.”
Sessler elaborated on all HD Daquiris provides its customers.
“We do all kinds of flavors of daiquiris, we have all different kinds of syrups,” Sessler said. “We have our own wine-based liquors so we can do mixed drinks like Bloody Marys, or whiskey Cokes, any kind of mixed drink we’ll do it. We’ve also got ice cream, we do smoothies, and we have beer, tobacco products as well. We have a lot of variety to choose from here.”
As for other favorites of patrons so far, Sessler said. “Mango is definitely one of our best sellers. Pina colada is a big hit, along with strawberry and margarita. And you can always sample a daiquiri flavor before you buy one.”
Spieckerman added, “We do some specialties like the Texas Sunset, which is strawberry, pineapple and mango. We have a house flavor and that’s pina colada, peach, kiwi and strawberry, and that goes pretty fast. And if someone wants some kind of off the wall flavor, we can make it.
“Most people think of daiquiris and think of strawberry daiquiris or pina coladas or margaritas, but we have all different stuff,” Spieckerman continued. “We haven’t had someone come in here and not like a drink yet. There’s something in here that everybody will like, so we definitely encourage you to come in here and try it.”
HD Daquiris also offers ‘virgin’ drinks, which do not contain alcohol, for kids and adults, and those are also served through the drive-through window.
For those who come inside the venue, “We have a cool little vibe at night, a different, beachy kind of atmosphere,” Sessler said. “We turn the main lights off and have our neon lights going, and the bar lights up. It’s a cool hang out spot.”
Though the venue has been open just over a week, the duo already has eyes on expansion.
“I’d like to do a little bit bigger venue and have some concert stuff, but we’ll see how this goes first and maybe grow into that,” Spieckerman said. “But it’s been really good so far.”
Sessler added, “We like the location right here, but eventually we’d like to have a bigger place with more seating room, but still have the drive through. Maybe one day we’ll serve some food, too, not really meals, but appetizer stuff.”
