GATESVILLE – The Brownwood High tennis suffered its second straight District 6-4A setback and fourth loss in a row overall, falling at Gatesville, 12-7, Thursday.
The loss comes on the heels of a 10-9 home defeat against 6-4A foe Lampasas seven days prior, and two Saturday non-district losses to Liberty Hill and College Station.
Brownwood won just two of seven doubles matches – the mixed match, with the victory earned by Eric Smith and Ihana Figueroa (6-4, 6-4 over Abraham Almendariz and Madeline Fast), and the No. 3 boys doubles match, which belonged to Eric Waldrop and Wesley Goodrich (6-3, 1-6, 10-6 over Jack Armstrong and Ben Woodson).
In singles competition, three victories were picked up by the Lady Lions – No. 4 Ashlyn Bundick (6-1, 6-4 over Preslea Edmond), No. 5 Lyric Shaw (6-1, 2-6, 10-5 over London Kizer), and No. 6 Anna Daniel (2-6, 6-4, 10-4 over Finn Rogers) – and two by the Lions – No. 5 Smith (7-5, 6-0 over Woodson) and No. 6 Waldrop (3-6, 6-3, 10-6 over Armstrong).
Brownwood (7-7, 1-2) will wrap up district action at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Stephenville.
