Lifelong Texas painter Bob Stuth-Wade says inspiration has always been easy to find—even out of his back door in rural Dublin.
“Out of my own back door there is beauty that changes with every shift of light, wind and season,” he says. “Painting is a long daily breath, a sigh of relief that I am home.”
Stuth-Wade’s upcoming Brownwood exhibit, “Out of My Own Back Door,” will open with a reception at the Art Center at 215 Fisk Avenue from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 6. The event is free and open to the public.
Best known for luminous Texas landscapes, some of Stuth-Wade’s favorite subjects include the Colorado Bend area near San Saba and Big Bend National Park.
With an art career beginning in his teens, the seasoned artist continues to paint and exhibit regularly around the state with his most-notable exhibitions being with his long-standing gallery partner, Valley House Gallery in Dallas. Known for their history of championing contemporary artists, the Valley House presented his one-man exhibit earlier this year titled, “The Comfort of Trees.” Recently two of Bob Stuth-Wade’s paintings were selected for “The Art of Texas State Parks” project, a traveling exhibit, benefitting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
Stuth-Wade’s self-directed art education began as a student at Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas and his talent earned him his first one-person gallery exhibition at the age of 18. He continued working as an artist for the next 50 years, creating an eclectic breadth of work that has been written about by Eleanor Jones Harvey of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Frederick Turner of American Arts Quarterly, Judy Deaton of The Grace Museum, and Rebecca Lawton of the Amon Carter Museum of Fort Worth.
Stuth-Wade’s exhibit continues through October. The Art Center Gallery is open 2-6 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, follow the Brownwood Art Association on Facebook, or visit www.brownwoodart.net.
