12-year-old Cohen Loewrigkeit from Brownwood completed the 2022 Xtreem Flattrack Summer racing series this past weekend in Mesquite, TX. Cohen earned the National Championship in three classes: 85cc, 0-249cc, and 250cc. Cohen, heading into Mesquite, was only six points ahead of rider Nicholas Karnes from Norton, KS (Cohen had secured the 85cc and 0-249cc championships going into the weekend). Cohen rode flawlessly on both days of racing at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway and was able to secure the 250cc Championship. This was Cohen’s first season to ride the 250cc class and only his second year as a racer. Cohen was the 2021 Summer and Winter Series Champion in the 85cc and 0-249cc classes, bringing his total to seven National Championships in the past two years.
Xtreem Flattrack is the second largest flattrack racing series in the nation, second only to the American Flattrack (AFT)/NASCAR racing series. The series is owned and operated by Jake Latimer and Jared Neal, who have worked hard to build and grow the series since taking ownership in 2016, of what was previously the Vintage Dirt Track (VDTRA) series. The Xtreem series has grown membership by 100% in each of the past two years and holds races throughout the U.S. during the summer series (April through September) to include Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, South Dakota, New Mexico, and California. The Winter series is primarily held throughout Texas, running from November through February, with races in Brownwood, Cisco, Caldwell, and Corpus Christi. The Xtreem series races several different classes and will run on 1 mile, ½ mile, and ¼ mile tracks. Riders will top speeds in excess of 100mph with only the use of a rear brake!
Cohen Loewrigkeit began riding a motorcycle when he was four years old. It wasn’t until one of his teachers at Bangs Middle School recommended that he try to participate in a race being held at Brady, TX in October of 2020. Cohen’s mom and dad, Ken and Carolyn, reached out to the race series, and owner Jake Latimer encouraged them to come on out and ride. So, the family loaded up Cohen’s Kawasaki KLX 110L, and headed to Brady, where Cohen finished 2nd in his class. It was from that point on that Cohen was hooked, and he has worked daily to become the best rider he can be.
Cohen aspires to be a World Champion one day and would like to move into Moto GP racing, as well. Cohen would like to thank the amazing people and sponsors that have helped him become a champion. Many, many thanks to his number 1 fan and supporter, big brother Connor Loewrigkeit.
