The Inaugural Women’s Day at the Lyric will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 in conjunction with Priscilla Shirer’s “Going Beyond” simulcast.
“She is a nationally known Bible study teacher, very powerful and really great at what she does,” event organizer Priscilla Monson said during a Thursday morning interview at KOXE. “We’re going to show that and do it our own way and have some breaks in the day. We’ll have some praise and worship throughout the day and then a women’s luncheon we’re having catered.”
Danielle Rosborough, the new music director at the Lyric Theatre, added, “I’m really excited we get to provide live music for it. Priscilla does have her own worship she provides with Anthony Evans, who was here a couple of years ago for another event at the Coliseum. It’s going to be really engaging and a great opportunity for women to come be still, be served and walk away with some new tools that we can put into everyday life.”
Monson added that women and church groups from around the area will be in attendance.
“The nice thing about it is it is sponsored by a lot of different churches across the communities,” Monson said. “We’ve got churches from Bangs, Early and Brownwood and all denominations are represented. This event is for everybody. It’s so nice to have a situation where everyone comes together, and everyone is welcome. We have groups coming from Cross Plains, Comanche, and Goldthwaite. It’s going to be a fun day with door prizes, surprises planned.”
Monson added future Women’s Day events are in the works for the Lyric.
“We’re going to do this a couple of times a year and it’s not always going to be religious in nature, but women’s topics,” Monson said. “I’ve been on the Lyric board since 2005 when we were raising money trying to renovate it and we always said it’s such a great space and needs to be used for things other than just performing arts. To be able to host something like this is a great opportunity to have something different for people to come to.”
Tickets are available only at brownwoodlyrictheatre.com. There is a 200-set limit, and Munson stated 165 tickets had been sold as of Thursday morning.
