MAY – The Class A Division I No. 4 May Tigers remained undefeated Friday night, securing a fourth straight win to start the season, 63-34 over Class A Division I No. 13 Garden City.
May (4-0) finished with 443 yards of total offense, including 363 passing, against the Garden City (3-1) defense.
Braden Steele completed 13 for 25 passes for 232 yards with four touchdowns, Luke McKenzie was 4 for 7 for 88 yards and three scores, and Ben Harrell connected on all three of his pass attempts for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Leading receivers were Bryson Guerrero with five catches for 117 yards and three touchdowns; McKenzie with four catches for 69 yards and a score; Harrell with three catches for 53 yards and a trip to the end zone; Alexis Mejia with a 42-yard scoring reception; Jackson Easterling with three grabs for 30 yards and a touchdown; Damian Salinas with three snags for 31 yards; and Kross Kenyon hauled in a 20-yard scoring reception.
On the ground, Salinas rushed for 72 yards on 10 carries and Steele tacked on an 8-yard scoring sprint.
Defensively for the Tigers, standouts included Steele (17 tackles, 1 pass defended, 1 TFL), Salinas (15 tackles, 1 fumble caused, 1 TFL), Harrell (14 tackles, 1 TFL), Wyatt Hardy (6 tackles, 1 TFL), Kenyon (4 tackles), Easterling (3 tackles, 1 TFL), Guerrero (3 tackles), McKenzie (2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble caused, 1 fumble recovery, 1 pass defended), and Mejia (1 tackle).
May was scheduled to face San Marcos Academy next week, but that game has been canceled. The Tigers do not have another opponent lined up for Week 5.

Blanket 52, Santa Anna 16
BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers reeled off their third consecutive victory and handed the Santa Anna Mountaineers their first loss, 52-16, Friday night.
Blanket (3-1) manufactured 297 yards of total offense – 283 rushing on 33 carries and 14 through the air on one completion – against the Santa Anna (3-1) defense.
The Tigers’ ground game was sparked by Levi Vazquez with 170 yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries, while Brayden Day rushed 16 times for 111 yards and reached the end zone twice.
Aydan Wheeler caught the lone completion from Gage Jones, who was 1 of 3 passing.
Defensively, Blanket forced four fumbles and two were returned for touchdowns by Kannon Kensing and Mason Beck. Wheeler and Day also scooped up loose balls. Kensing led the charge with 15 tackles followed by Day with seven, Beck with six, Vazquez and Brandon Larance with four apiece and Wheeler with three.
Next week, Blanket hosts Moran (0-4) – coming off a 58-44 loss to the Tigers’ District 15-A Division II rival Mullin – for homecoming.

Zephyr 68, Lohn 6
LOHN – The Zephyr Bulldogs continued their winning ways Friday night, running their win streak to three games with a 68-6 rout of the Lohn Eagles.
Zephyr (3-1) amassed 387 total yards – 328 rushing and 59 passing – and surrendered just three 3 yards – 14 through the air and negative-11 on the ground – while forcing a pair of turnovers.
Eathan Gowin rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns, Jayden Millican chipped in 84 yards and four scores, and Johnny Paul Evans-Rollins tacked on 49 yards with a trip to the end zone. Also rushing for the Bulldogs were Tripp Ballard with 34 yards and Kaden Floyd with 19 yards.
Through the air, Karsen Floyd hurled a 16-yard touchdown pass to Waggoner Shelton, who caught two balls for 27 yards. Ballard grabbed a 32-yard reception, as Bransen Bumguarder was 2 of 4 for 43 yards passing.
Defensively, Kaden Floyd led Zephyr with seven tackles trailed by Millican with six, and Ballard with five. Evans-Rollins contributed an interception to go along with two tackles.
Next week, Zephyr hosts the Olfen Mustangs (0-2), who faced Panther Creek Saturday afternoon.

San Saba 26, Eldorado 0
ELDORADO – The San Saba Armadillos moved to 4-0 on the season, collecting their third straight win on the road, 26-0 over Eldorado, Friday night.
San Saba (4-0) generated 450 yards of total offense – 259 rushing and 191 passing – against the Eldorado (1-3) defense.
Tyler Johnson rushed for a team-high 121 yards and also caught a team-best six passes for 121 yards with three trips to the end zone. Lance Taylor connected on 11 of 18 passes for 191 yards and three scoring tosses, while rushing for 52 yards. Ethan Gonzales tacked on 86 rushing yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 9 yards. Levi Glover hauled in a 46-yard reception as well.
Defensively for the Armadillos, Winton Lackey logged 10 tackles, trailed by Zuri Herrera with nine and a fumble recovery; Dylan Ware with eight and three sacks; Glover and Levi Miller with seven apiece; and Johnson and Jesus Betancourt with six tackles each.
Next week, San Saba begins its District 5-2A Division I schedule at Hamilton (2-2), which knocked off Leon, 34-14, Friday night.

Cross Plains 35, Junction 20
CROSS PLAINS – The Cross Plains Buffaloes’ undefeated run continued Friday night with a 35-20 triumph over winless Junction.
Cross Plains (4-0) outgained Junction (0-4) just 286 to 285 in total yards, but the Buffaloes forced three takeaways – including a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dusty Wyatt – and did not a commit a turnover.
The Buffaloes finished with 216 yards on the ground, led by Noah Moses’ 190 yards and three touchdowns. Wyatt tacked on 40 yards and a score.
Through the air, Kade Purvis connected on 11 of 19 passes for 70 yards, with Moses serving as the leading receiver as well with four grabs for 53 yards.
Defensively for the Buffaloes, Riley Conlee notched a team-high 13 tackles with a pair of sacks; Tye McWalters finished with 11 tackles, five for loss, and two sacks; Noah Moses added 11 tackles as well; Kadin Galvan logged seven tackles with two sacks; and Asher Moses recorded four tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Next week, Cross Plains will venture to Snyder for a neutral site contest against Smyer (1-3), which is coming off a 55-8 loss to Clarendon.

Rising Star 52, Cranfills Gap 6
CRANFILLS GAP – The Rising Star Wildcats handed Cranfills Gap its first loss of the season and improved to 3-1 overall with a 52-6 road victory Friday night.
The Wildcats generated 368 yards of total offense – 228 through the air and 140 on the ground.
Jake Bell completed 4 of 7 passes for 141 yards, Dathon Morris was also 4 of 7 for 55 yards and two scores, Tristan Jackson hurled a 20-yard touchdown pass, and Kobey Morris connected on a 12-yard completion.
Leading receivers were Dakota Higgins with four grabs for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Kobey Morris with three catches for 116 yards, Blake Wilson with a 20-yard reception, and Colt Lawrence and Jake Bell caught passes of 25 and 5 yards, respectively.
On the ground Dathon Morris rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns, Jackson chipped in 39 yards and scored twice, and Wilson – who also booted five of six two-point kicks – contributed 36 yards.
Bell led the Wildcats with six tackles, including three for loss, and a fumble recovery, trailed by Brayden Cook and Anthony Pollard with five tackles apiece, Dathon Morris with four, Jackson and Higgins with three each and Wilson with one. Jackson also recovered a fumble and Higgins tallied two tackles for loss.
Next week, Rising Star welcomes Lohn (0-4), which is coming off a 68-6 loss to Zephyr.

Llano 31, Coleman 6
LLANO – The Class 2A Division I No. 6 Coleman Bluecats tasted defeat for the first time in 2022 Friday night, falling at the Class 3A Division I No. 20 Llano Yellowjackets, 31-6.
Coleman (3-1) was limited to 195 total yards – 104 passing and 91 rushing – with two turnovers, while Llano (4-0) picked up 422 yards – 257 through the air and 165 on the ground – with a pair of turnovers as well.
Ryland Gentry scored the lone Bluecat touchdown on an 8-yard run in the second quarter and finished with a team-high 70 yards rushing. He also caught an 11-yard pass.
Quarterback Jadin Jackson completed 7 of 17 passes for 69 yards and rushed for 4 yards, while Braxton Smith connected on a 35-yard pass to Hogan Johnson and also hauled in a team-high four receptions for 51 yards.
Next week, Coleman kicks off District 5-2A Division I action at home against Goldthwaite (0-4), which suffered a 42-26 loss to Granger Friday night.

Tolar 45, Comanche 14
TOLAR – The Comanche Indians’ season-opening three-game win streak was snapped by the Tolar Rattlers, who remained undefeated Friday night in a 45-14 decision.
Trailing just 14-0 at halftime, the Indians (3-1) yielded three third-quarter touchdowns to Tolar (3-0) and were unable to recover.
Comanche finished with 385 total yards – 206 passing and 179 rushing.
Quarterback Layden Welch completed 16 of 29 passes for 206 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, while rushing for 20 yards. Kyler Beaty caught five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown, Miguel Martinez hauled in a team-high seven receptions for 116 yards, Sawyer Wilkerson finished with three grabs for 31 yards, and Diego Gutierrez hauled in a 10-yard touchdown.
On the ground, Wilkerson churned out 111 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Cayden Davis contributed 31 yards.
Defensively, Israel Medrano led Comanche with 11 tackles followed by Gutierrez with 10, Dom Rios and Ayden Fishback with seven each, and Welch, Pierson Sorrells and Ezequiel Medrano with six apiece. Wilkerson recovered a fumble for the Indians.
Next week, Comanche will attempt to rebound at Class 2A Division II No. 1 Albany (3-1), which is coming off a 26-14 loss to 2A Division I No. 2 Hawley.

Granger 42, Goldthwaite 26
GOLDTHWAITE – The Goldthwaite Eagles’ homecoming game was spoiled by Granger, as the visiting Lions chalked up a 42-26 victory Friday night.
The loss kept Goldthwaite (0-4) winless thus far in head coach Andy Howard’s first season, with the Eagles set to begin District 5-2A Division I action next week at Coleman (3-1), which is coming off its first loss, 31-6, to 3A Division I Llano.
Against Granger (3-1), the Eagles finished with 236 yards of total offense – 151 rushing and 85 passing – with four turnovers. Defensively, Goldthwaite created three takeaways, but yielded 425 yards – 241 on the ground and 184 through the air.
Carsyn Campbell sparked the Goldthwaite offense with 106 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Cutter Campbell chipped in 53 yards on the ground. Bryce Brookings connected on 2 of 6 passes for 54 yards with a touchdown and an interception, as Collin Gardner hauled in two receptions for 67 yards and a score.
Defensively, Cutter Campbell picked off a pass and recovered a fumble, and Rylan Wiedebusch also pounced on a loose ball.
