Despite a 13-point road victory over the Burnet Bulldogs this past Friday, the Brownwood Lions tumbled from No. 6 to No. 12 in the latest Class 4A Division I Harris Ratings.
The Lions (2-1) started the season at No. 37, moved up to No. 31 after a 30-24 loss to 5A Division II No. 16 Abilene Wylie, vaulted to No. 6 after a 55-16 road thrashing at 4A Division I No. 60 Marble Falls, and defeated 4A Division I No. 39 Burnet, 33-20, only to dip in the rankings for the first time.
The teams ranked ahead of the Lions in 4A Division I are No. 1 Stephenville, No. 2 China Spring, No. 3 Corpus Christi Calallen, No. 4 Celina, No. 5 Boerne, No. 6 Anna, No. 7 El Campo, No. 8 Little Cypress-Mauriceville, No. 9 Dumas, No. 10 Beeville Jones and No. 11 Lumberton.
Dumas is the only Region I team ranked ahead of Brownwood, which will be back at home at 7:30 p.m. Friday to face Class 4A Division II No. 6 Glen Rose (3-0). Then on Sept 23, the Lions visit 4A Division II No. 10 Waco Connally (3-0) and wrap up non-district action at Stephenville (3-0) on Sept. 30.
In other local Harris Ratings news, Coleman (3-0) is No. 6 in Class 2A Division I, Comanche (3-0) is No. 21 in Class 3A Division II, Early (1-2) is No. 28 in 3A Division II, and San Saba (3-0) is No. 28 in 2A Division I.
