KNOX CITY – The Class A Division I No. 2 May Tigers passed their toughest test to date thus far in 2022, knocking off No. 6 Knox City by an 81-58 count Friday night.
May (3-0) produced 604 yards of total offense – 336 rushing and 268 passing – against a Knox City (2-1) defense that had allowed an average of just 10 points per game through its first two outings.
Damian Salinas rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns while Luke McKenzie chipped in 154 yards and five scores to pace the May attack.
McKenzie also completed 9 for 14 passes for 222 yards with three touchdowns, while Ben Harrell was 2 for 5 for 46 yards and a score.
Leading receivers included Salinas with two catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, Jackson Easterling with three catches for 61 yards and a score, Harrell with three grabs for 47 yards, Bryson Guerrero with a 47-yard scoring reception, and McKenzie with two grabs for 46 yards with a trip to the end zone.
Defensive standouts for May included Salinas (19 tackles, 1 for loss), Kross Kenyon (11 tackles, 1 fumble caused, 1 fumble recovered, 1 blocked kick, 1 for loss), Harrell (8 tackles), Guerrero (7 tackles, 1 for loss), McKenzie (4 tackles, 1 pass defended), Wyatt Hardy (4 tackles, 1 for loss), Alexis Mejia and Easterling (2 tackles each), and Adam Blankinship and Ryland Billadeau notched one blocked extra point kick.
Next week, the Tigers host Class A Division I No. 10 Garden City (3-0), which hammered Midland Trinity, 61-0, Friday night.

Blanket 50, Eden 0
BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers earned their second victory in a row, and of the season, in shutout fashion Friday night, smothering the Eden Bulldogs, 50-0.
The Tigers (2-1) finished with 291 yards of total offense – 258 rushing and 33 passing – against the Eden (0-3) defense.
Brayden Day anchored the ground game with 139 yards and three touchdowns of 2, 35 and 45 yards. Kannon Kensing scored on a 55-yard scamper, Levi Vazquez added a 40-yard touchdown jaunt, Brandon Larance tacked on 25 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Emmanuel McLaughlin rushed for 8 yards.
Through the air, Brennen Varner completed both of his pass attempts for 33 yards – 17 yards to Aydan Wheeler and 16 yards to Isaac Smith.
Adam McLaughlin tacked on four two-point kicks.
Defensively for Blanket, Kensing again led the way with 18 tackles followed by Vazquez with seven, Smith with five, Wheeler with four, and Day with three.
Next week, the Tigers host Santa Anna (2-0), which is playing at Nueces Canyon at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Zephyr 54, Waco Eagle Christian 6
ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs have followed a 14-game skid with a win streak, tallying their second triumph in a row Friday night, this victory being against Waco Eagle Christian Academy.
Zephyr (2-1) jumped out to a 22-0 lead over Eagle Christian (1-1) after one quarter and tacked on 32 more points in the second period to end the game at halftime.
The Bulldogs compiled 235 total yards – 147 rushing and 88 passing.
Jayden Millican rushed for 100 yards and five touchdowns, scoring on carries of 15, 4, 5, 17 and 45 yards. Millican also threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Karsen Floyd to cap a 3 for 4 effort through the air for 74 yards.
Waggoner Shelton contributed a 20-yard rushing touchdown for Zephyr, Eathan Gowin finished with 27 yards on the ground on eight carries, and Bransen Bumguardner threw a 14-yard pass to Ethan Byers.
Defensively, Tripp Ballard logged 12 tackles for the Bulldogs followed by Millican with 11, and Karsen Floyd and Kaden Floyd with five tackles apiece.
Next week, the Bulldogs host Lohn (0-3), which suffered a 40-29 loss to Paint Creek Friday night.

Coleman 56, Brady 24
COLEMAN – The Class 2A Division I No. 5 Coleman Bluecats added a third straight victory to their tally Friday night, coasting past the winless Brady Bulldogs, 56-24.
Coleman (3-0) generated 523 yards of total offense – 338 rushing and 185 passing – with one turnover, while allowing Brady (0-3) to produce 352 yards – 261 through the air and 91 on the ground – with a pair of turnovers.
Bluecat quarterback Jadin Jackson rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns, Ryland Gentry chipped in 133 yards and three scores, and Brent Bouldin finished with 37 yards and a trip to the end zone.
Jackson completed 8 of 14 passes for 185 yards with a touchdown to Braxton Smith, who hauled in four catches for 85 yards. Hunter Lackey added two receptions for 52 yards, Dayden Hunter made a 43-yard catch and Bouldin caught an 18-yard pass.
Defensively, Gentry returned an interception 54 yards for another Bluecat touchdown.
Next week, Coleman visits Llano (3-0), which pummeled Austin Crockett, 57-13, Friday night.

San Saba 28, Johnson City 3
JOHNSON CITY – The San Saba Armadillos kept their unblemished record intact as they handed the Johnson City Eagles their first defeat, 28-3, Friday night.
San Saba (2-0) chalked up 260 yards of total offense – 222 rushing and 38 passing – against the Johnson City (2-1) defense.
Ethan Gonzales led the Armadillos with 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground, followed by Lance Taylor with 61 yards and a score, and Tyler Johnson with 30 yards.
Through the air, Taylor connected on 6 of 9 passes for 38 yards with a scoring toss to Johnson, who finished with four grabs for 27 yards. Lane Miller and Dylan Ware added catches of 8 and 3 yards, respectively.
Defensive standouts for the Armadillos included Zuri Herrera with 18 tackles and a sack; Ware with 12 tackles, five for loss and four sacks; Jesue Betancourt with 11 tackles; Rene Guerro with five sacks and three sacks; and Levi Glover with three tackles and a fumble recovery.
Next week, San Saba travels to Eldorado (1-2), which is coming off a 24-7 loss to Sonora.

Cross Plains 33, Hico 7
HICO – The Cross Plains Buffaloes avenged a loss from a year ago to a former district rival, collecting a 33-7 victory over the Hico Tigers Friday night to remain undefeated.
Cross Plains (3-0) amassed 334 yards of total offense behind a balanced attack of 188 yards on the ground and 146 through the air, with one turnover. Hico (1-2) was limited to 141 yards – 96 rusing and 45 passing – with one turnover.
Noah Moses rushed for 119 yards and a score, Dusty Wyatt chipped in 47 yards, Riley Conlee finished with 14 yards and a trip to the end zone, and Asher Moses added 8 yards.
Kade Purvis completed 13 of 24 passes for 146 yards with three touchdowns – all to Ryan Reed, who finished with six grabs for 89 yards. Wyatt added six catches for 38 yards, and Asher Moses hauled in a 19-yard catch.
Defensive standouts were Conlee with 12 tackles and two for loss; Noah Moses with 11 tackles; Asher Moses with nine tackles; Kadin Galvan with seven tackles, one sack, and two fumble recoveries; Wyatt with seven tackles; Theron Albrecht with six tackles; Reed with five tackles, Michael Samora with four tackles; and Coltyn Barron with three tackles and a fumble recovery.
Next week, Cross Plains hosts Junction (0-3), which was handed a 21-6 loss by D’Hanis Friday night.

Richland Springs 68, Lometa 22
LOMETA – The Class A Division II No. 2 Richland Spring Coyotes allowed their first points of the season, but still earned a comfortable 68-22 victory over the Lometa Hornets.
The Coyotes (3-0) finished with 391 yards – 224 rushing and 167 passing – with one turnover, while giving up 211 yards, including 181 on the ground, and forcing four Lometa (1-2) turnovers.
Braxton Ethridge completed 8 of 12 passes for 167 yards and four touchdowns for the Coyotes, while also rushing for 126 yards and two more scores.
Brandon Stewart contributed 53 yards on the ground and caught an 8-yard pass, while Keston Lusty rushed for 45 yards with two trips to the end zone and added two catches for 31 yards and another touchdown. Jayden Sutherland finished with two grabs for 63 yards, both touchdowns, and Jeremiah Beam hauled in two receptions for 61 yards and scored once.
Lusty led the Coyote defense with nine tackles followed by Beam with five, Stewart with 3.5 tackles and an interception, and Ethridge and Cohen Tharp with three tackles apiece.

Rising Star 48, Morgan 18
MORGAN – The Rising Star Wildcats bounced back from their first loss of the season and cruised past Morgan, 48-18, Friday night.
The Wildcats (2-1) manufactured 361 total yards – 233 rushing and 128 passing – against the Morgan (1-2) defense.
On the ground, Jake Bell rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns followed by Blake Wilson with 59 yards and a score, Anthony Pollard with 38 yards and a touchdown, and Dathon Morris with 34 yards and a trip to the end zone.
Morris completed all three of his pass attempts for 88 yards with a touchdown, while Bell was 2 of 5 for 40 yards.
Top receivers included Dakota Higgins with two grabs for 91 yards and a touchdown, Wilson with a 17-yard catch, and Bell and Brayden Cook each with a 10-yard reception.
Defensively for the Wildcats, Bell tallied nine tackles with a fumble recovery; Pollard logged seven tackles; Wilson chipped in six; Higgins contributed five tackles with three for loss and recovered two fumbles including one that was returned for a touchdown; Dathon Morris with four tackles; Cook with three; Kobey Morris with two; and Dustin McGinn with one tackle.
Next week, Rising Star ventures to Cranfills Gap (3-0), a 68-22 victor over Gustine Friday night.
