Following Friday night’s 55-16 road victory over previously 17th-ranked Marble Falls, the Brownwood Lions have vaulted from No. 31 in Harris Rating Weekly’s Class 4A Division I poll to No. 6 this week.
The Lions (1-1) are ranked behind only No. 1 Stephenville, No. 2 China Spring, No. 3 Celina, No. 4 Corpus Christi Calallen and No. 5 Boerne. The rest of the Top 10 features No. 7 Anna, No. 8 Waco La Vega, No. 9 Little Cypress-Mauriceville, and No. 10 Dumas.
Marble Falls (1-1), after the loss, dropped from No. 17 to No. 29 this week.
Brownwood’s season-opening opponent, Class 5A Division II Abilene Wylie, is now ranked No. 14 in its classification after victories of 30-24 over the Lions and 30-0 over 5A Division I No. 68 Lubbock Monterey last week.
The Lions are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they visit the Burnet Bulldogs (1-1), ranked No. 41 in Class 4A Division I.
According to Harris Ratings Weekly, Brownwood is a 24-point favorite.
In other local rankings of interest, Comanche (2-0) is No. 18 in Class 3A Division II while Early (1-1) slipped to No. 32; and Coleman (2-0) climbed to No. 5 in Class 2A Division I, while Tolar (2-0) is No. 12 after knocking off the Longhorns last week.
