On Friday, September 2, 2022, Christy Dawn Wells went to her heavenly home. She was such a bright light and touched so many lives with her big heart, positive outlook, and fighting spirit.
Christy was born on August 28, 1971, to Jim and Sheila Wells. She attended Axtell High School and San Saba High School, graduating in 1989. She left her mark on both schools as a twirler, basketball player and member of the track team. She was also San Saba Pecan Queen which she considered a real honor. She then graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1993.
Christy spent years as a government contractor with L3 and Dyncorp. Her job took her and Corey to live in Huntsville, Alabama for several years where she made dozens of new friends. Once Christy made a friend, they were her friend forever. She was an encourager with a servant heart and was always available to help out anyone who needed it.
Christy loved life and lived it to the fullest, taking delight in simple things. Saturdays would find her outdoors–hiking and kayaking. She loved to travel, she loved her family, and she loved Jesus. Christy’s desire was to be a missionary. She went on several mission trips to Mexico and Macedonia, but she was a missionary in her community every day.
Christy’s cancer journey began in February of 2015. She faced every obstacle with grace and courage, touching hundreds of lives along the way. She started a non-profit, The Purple Poppy, to help other cancer patients. She provided baskets of uplifting and necessary items to people who were going through the same thing she was. Many times, she would hand deliver to the people in the chemo room with her. Everywhere she went, she was a light to others. Her smile could change
everything, it was very uplifting to so many. The greatest joy of her life was her son, Corey James. She was his chief cheerleader and mama bear.
After the death of her dad, Christy moved home to help her mom maintain the family place. Shortly after that her sister, April Wetzig and family, moved to Goldthwaite. Christy delighted in cheering on her niece and nephews in all their band activities and sports, yelling at the referees, trash talking, and crying when they scored points or struck out.
After moving to Goldthwaite, Christy worked as the wine club director at Brennan Vineyards where she collected more friends. Christy’s last employment was with MCBank in Goldthwaite, where she brought sunshine and laughter to her co-workers and patrons.
One of Christy’s favorite sayings was “Bless It”, and so many people picked it up that it became a household mantra. Christy would want to be remembered as the strong, positive woman she was, not as a cancer victim. She was so much more than that. Those lucky enough to know her, knew they were blessed by her personality and love.
Christy was preceded in death by her dad, Jim Wells. She is survived by her son, Corey Wells; her mom, Sheila Wells; her brother Cody Wells (Ellen); her sister, April Wetzig (Lindsey); her niece, Callie Wells; her nephews, Hunter Wells (Jaden), Gage Wells, AJ Wetzig, Jack Wetzig, and Ben Wetzig.
Without a doubt, Christy was the best mother, daughter, sister, friend and aunt on the planet.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Goldthwaite. An hour long visitation will immediately follow in the Family Life Center and later a private graveside service for the family.
Christy’s favorite charities were Texas Baptist Men and Mission de Candelilla. Memorials to either charity can be mailed to Priddy Baptist Church, P.O. Box 74 Priddy, Texas 76870.
