BANGS – Looking to build off last week’s positive showing at times against Early, the Bangs Dragons were again denied their first victory of 2022 as the Class 3A Division II No. 25 Comanche Indians emerged with a 42-18 road triumph Friday night.

Bangs (0-2) finished with 299 yards on the ground and 319 yards of total offense. Guy Powell rushed for 208 yards and two scores on 28 carries, Kenny Cole finished with 49 yards, Keygan Pitts tacked on 33 yards, and Hunter Newton rushed for 9 yards and a touchdown.

Through the air, Cole connected on 2 of 14 passes for 20 yards, with an interception. Nate Stoffer caught both passes for the Dragons.

Comanche (2-0), which surpassed its 2021 win total with the victory, produced 443 yards of total offense including 374 yards rushing on 33 carries – 11.3 yards per attempt. Through the air, the Indians completed 6 of 15 passes for 69 yards with an interception.

Sawyer Wilkerson led the charge on the ground for Comanche with 273 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries. In the first half alone, Wilkerson registered 214 yards and four scores on 14 totes.

Layden Welch chipped in 58 yards rushing and handled all the passing duties for the Indians.

Easton Gonzales contributed 33 yards and a touchdown on the ground and Zeke Medrano added 12 yards rushing.

Next week, the Dragons hit the road for the first time with a trip to the Grape Creek (0-2), which fell to Christoval, 30-10, Friday night, while Comanche welcomes Early (1-1), coming off a 51-14 loss to Tolar, for homecoming.
